Knitting Activism - Raising Awareness |
Most recently, Diva has teamed up with Carrie Maloney, director of the Creative Visions Foundation, which supports people who use media and the arts to create awareness of social, environmental or humanitarian issues and effect positive change in local and global communities, to raise funds for the Watoto Fund. |
The Watoto Fund is a project of Creative Visions foundation that provides living and educational expenses to Masai orphans living in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. These orphans, predominantly young girls, have been victims of female genitalia mutilation (FGM) abandoned for not marrying older tribesman or released from care by their families for lack of resources. Hand Made Beauty and Creative Visions Foundation donates a percentage of all sales to enhance the quality of life for these orphans by providing school fees, clothes, and daily living expenses. By October 2007 Handmade Beauty and Creative Visions hopes to travel to Kenya to visit with the children and help decorate a center funded by these projects for the director and the children when they are not in school. Handmade Beauty believes in knitting kindness throughout the world, one purl at a time. To learn more, visit: www.creativevisions.org. |
